Passenger information systems (PIS) for trains are today no longer considered as optional or luxury features, they are considered essential to provide basic journey information and warnings of delays etc.

 

This need is endorsed by the implementation of new EU (TSI PRM) regulations and the fact passengers are demanding to be informed, particularly in instances of journey delays, to allow them to plan for these delays.

 

Over the last decade, passenger information systems (PIS) have evolved from standalone simple audio and visual displays to multimodal integrated systems that keep passengers informed along their journey

 

Today’s passenger information encompass multiple technologies, including highly specified advanced visual displays (internal and external), public address, emergency call for aid and intercom, IP networks, wireless networks, global positioning, real-time communications, all managed centrally from a Control Centre on a centralised application.
